Venture Scientist Fellowship 2023 Cohort - Applications Open

We're recruiting our next cohort of students, PhD, and Postdoc researchers to support emerging deep science startups

The Opportunity

As a part of the Venture Scientist Fellowship, you will be working at the forefront of translating scientific breakthroughs into real world application. You’ll play a key role in identifying and supporting deep science founders to build their startups through Spin Up Science Ventures (SUSV), and help us conduct investment due diligence through our sister company Science Angel Syndicate. You'll be working shoulder-to-shoulder with founders, investors and venture builders as they create companies that define the next generation of scientific innovation.

The Fellowship offers great insight into the inner workings of real start-ups. Presenting a broad range of scenarios from which I could learn whilst also contributing to the start-up community. Together the meetings and opportunities with the Fellows Network provided the direction I had sought within research commercialisation, an area I had previously found inaccessible and daunting.

As companies apply to SUSV and progress through our application process, you'll work with the rest of our team to review their investment memo and data room, and compile a report to highlight the key strengths and risks of each venture. You'll then join us at Science Angel Syndicate investment committees and speak with our extended advisory network in order to help us make a well-informed, evidence-based decision on inviting them to join the studio. Once companies join SUSV, you will work closely with early stage founding teams to take their initial ideas and build high-growth, robust deep science ventures, supporting them through company launch and securing investment.

The Venture Scientist Fellowship is a 1 year voluntary opportunity, designed to fit around your existing responsibilities with flexible scheduling for your participation in all studio activities. Following completion of training, all Venture Scientist Fellows are eligible for paid consultancy contracts.

As part of the Venture Scientist Fellowship, you’ll also:

  • Receive training on deep science investment and venture creation, opportunity analysis and how to conduct due diligence, as well as 1-week live action immersive training sprint to put all your new skills into practice.

  • Build a network of like-minded peers, entrepreneurs, and investors, with the opportunity to work together to evaluate and build deep science ventures, with continual feedback and training throughout the process.
