What We Do
We cofound the business with you and put our resources and network at your disposal. Together, we build your business, design your brand, and upskill and prepare you to make effective commercial and legal decisions.
Founder Finder
A lack of entrepreneurial candidates can stop many great discoveries emerging from academia. We make light work of heavy lifting, and can source capable people from within our network to lead ideas forward.
On day 0, team is everything.
Building Ventures
The process of commercialising technologies can feel slow and complicated. Early founders can feel they are limited on time to fully explore opportunities or lack the commercial experience to make sure they are having the right conversations and aren't being taken advantage of.
The founders we work with have a firm vision of the future, are excited to tackle the commercialisation challenge ahead, and are world-leaders in their area. We provide the infrastructure and support so they can thrive.

Portfolio Snapshot
Biotryp Therapeutics, a biotechnology spin-out from the University of Cambridge's Department of Genetics, is pioneering the development of novel oral antibiofilm therapies targeting bacterial infections, with an initial focus on urinary tract infections (UTIs). By inhibiting biofilm formation—a key bacterial defense mechanism that renders infections resistant to traditional antibiotics—the company's small-molecule approach offers a promising alternative to current treatments
EnsiliTech, a biotechnology startup founded in 2022 and based in Bristol, UK, has developed a patented platform technology called ensilication. This innovative method encases thermally unstable biomolecules, such as vaccines and antibodies, within a protective silica network, stabilizing them across a temperature range from –80°C to +50°C.
Transdermal Diagnostics, a MedTech startup founded in 2021 and based in Bath, UK, is developing a needle-free, continuous glucose monitoring device designed to revolutionize diabetes management. Their technology utilizes a disposable adhesive skin patch and rechargeable transmitter to non-invasively monitor blood glucose levels in real-time, enhancing patient comfort and compliance.

“Having Spin Up Science to hand has been invaluable to our startup journey. As an early stage company, there's a lot we are unfamiliar with and having the support of an experienced team to guide us has really accelerated our progress.
Spin Up supported us by building our website and logo, and helped us refine our business plan, financial forecasts, and pitch deck. Together we applied and secured £300,000 InnovateUK funding and just closed a £160,000 matched investment round.”

FAQ
We work with teams anywhere between proving the idea in the lab to raising their first investment. If the IP has been filed for protection, that's preferred but not a requirement.
Things move faster if you have someone to help drive forward the business from your side, but if you don't that's OK. We can help to source a good entrepreneurial candidate from our network.
Over the past three years, we've worked with startups in advanced materials, synthetic biology, robotics, quantum computing, diagnostics, and therapeutics. We are experts at getting companies started and funded, we apply that skill to problems that excite us.
Most startups don't have access to capital before raising investment. We come on board as a co-founder, committed to supporting the business and your growth as a leader. For that, we ask for this work to be recognised like any founder, through equity. That way, our missions are aligned. We are only successful, if you are successful.
It depends on the stage of the venture and the work we are coming in to support, but typically we ask for between 5-10%. We can often help finance the small early expenditures you may incur while starting up.
This will vary based on your starting point and your venture. We
work hard to get you to the point of first investment which can take up to 18 months depending on your readiness for investment. Beyond that point, we want you to keep succeeding. We'll send good job candidates your way, recommend you for awards, talk about you to our investor network and generally try to engineer more serendipity in your favour.
We will also help with advisory and running of the company until you feel confident in the day to day, usually this lasts for 3-6 months post investment. Beyond that point, we are always here if you need us.
This is customised to your needs. We work alongside you to support both you in developing the knowledge and skills to take on your role in the business as well as building the infrastructure around you to succeed.
We are entrepreneurs and scientists. We build websites, pitch to investors, file tax returns, and plan scientific and product roadmaps. If there's something our core team can't do, we'll reach out to our network for support to make it happen.
