Transdermal Diagnostics Spin-out of University of Bath
Transdermal Diagnostics announce today their spin-out from the University of Bath.
Transdermal Diagnostics is a MedTech startup developing a wearable technology to revolutionise the diagnosis and management of chronic disease. Focusing first on diabetes, they are developing the world's first 100% needle free blood sugar monitor to equip diabetic patients with the information they need to make informed decisions about their health.
The technology is based on research by Dr Adelina Ilie and Prof Richard Guy at the University of Bath. Over the last year, the team, led by CEO Dr Luca Lipani, have explored the market opportunity for the technology through SETsquared's Innovation-to-Commercialisation of University Research (ICURe) program. Having recently been awarded a £300k Innovate UK grant, Transdermal Diagnostics are currently fundraising a further £600K private investment. Spinning out of the university marks a milestone for the team as they plan to close their seed investment round imminently.
Dr Luca Lipani, CEO “The team and I personally are enthusiastic about having achieved this milestone. As one of the founding members of Transdermal Diagnostics, I am confident that the technology, team and culture are there to make a tremendous impact on chronic disease management, particularly on those looking to get rid of needles and fingersticks for blood sugar monitoring.”
Dr Adelina Ilie, CSO “This is the culmination of a long journey and working with Spin Up Science Ventures greatly facilitated the spinout of our company.”
Prof Richard Guy, Scientific Advisor “The spin-out of TD provides the impetus to develop a revolutionary, affordable and needle-free glucose monitoring technology to inhibit or even arrest the progression of diabetes, enabling those living with the disease to safely and effectively manage and control their blood sugar levels.”
